PM Tells Party Members Involved with Sam Rainsy to Cut Ties

PURSAT: Prime Minister Hun Sen has instructed all members of the party associated with Sam Rainsy to secede and cut ties immediately, as it is not possible to have a "traitor party."

This announcement was made during a meeting with about 5,000 people affected by floods in Pursat province on Tuesday morning, 25 October.

"Those who have joined the party that betrayed the nation, betrayed the religion, betrayed the King, should leave this group of traitors," he said. "Otherwise, you may suffer the consequences, not a threat, but the truth. In one country, treason cannot be allowed."

While the Prime Minister did not directly name any party, the primary suspect appears to be the Candlelight Party, which used to be the former Sam Rainsy Party.

Sam Rainsy recently made comments insulting the King when he said that "The King of Cambodia has no national conscience at all." He also accused the King of having signed a royal decree to cut off foreign territory. These comments have been met with widespread condemnation from the Royal Government and all ministries and institutions.
